Fernando Torres liked the way the Chelsea supporters stood up and clapped for Steven Gerrard the other day when he was coming off the pitch having played his part in the match.
It was the last time Gerrard was making an appearance at Stamford Bridge.
Because of the Reds and the Blues being arch rivals, Gerrard has almost always been on the receiving end on his visits to Bridge and yesterday was no different either.
He was subject to some rude comments again, but, at the time he was taken off by his manager in the second half, each and every spectator present there showed a respectful gesture towards the playmaker.
According to Torres, it was wonderful to see the standing ovation being given to Gerrard as he deserves it.
The 31-year old wrote on a social networking site, “The legend being clapped off. What a gesture, so nice of Chelsea fans, privileged to have been a part of both the teams in the past.”
The gesture did not impress Gerrard himself though. He sounded a bit sarcastic of the fact that after ruthlessly bombarding him with abuses for a big part of the contest, the Blues fans opted to hand him a respectful ovation.
