The days when Chelsea fans used to dread about who wore their no. 9 shirt seems to be coming to an end. Ever since the disaster of Fernando Torres in that role, the Blues have struggled to have any regular Joe take up the mantle of a striker and gift the team goals.
Diego Costa was almost ideal in that he did give them those goals but the troubles that came with it were too much for any coach to handle. Especially Antonio Conte.
With the emergency of Tammy Abraham after his successful spell at Swansea City, the young lad has become the undisputed striker at the Bridge.
Lyon’s Moussa Dembele is rumored to be one of the Blues’ target this January and the forward says he wouldn’t mind competing with Abraham for the crown.
The Blues’ first offer for the forward was promptly turned down by Lyon but many believe with the right incentive the French club will be more than ready to given in.
This is not the first time they have been doing business with Chelsea considering that Loic Remy once made a similar switch nor is it the first time they are doing business with any big boy club since they have pretty much functioned as a feeder club for decades.
Dembele is said to also believe he has what it takes to oust Abraham out of the starting line up since even though the England international has had an amazing start to the season, experience gives the French man more “you get to play” points.
Lampard is also said to be strongly behind the move given that no matter how Abraham may turn out to be, lack of competition can make him slack off at any time.
Something that is sure to give Chelsea problems should it happen.
