Fernando Torres has stated that he wants to start winning titles with Atletico Madrid. The Spaniard made a return to the Spanish club seven years after he left for Liverpool in a £ 26 million deal.
Since then, Torres has managed to lift several trophies including the World Cup and the Champions League. However, he returns to Madrid as a measure of his former self since he has not been able to score goals regularly. Torres is not expected to be a first choice striker in this team under Diego Simeone. The 30-year-old has joined Atletico Madrid on a loan deal until the end of the season from AC Milan.
Torres was presented to the Atletico Madrid supporters just ahead of the high-profile clash with Real Madrid in the Copa del Rey.
Torres is not expected to start in the match, but he said that he is hoping that this move gives him more trophies like at his previous clubs like Liverpool and Chelsea. It is highly expected that the loan deal will be made permanent depending upon the performances. Summer signing Mario Mandzukic is set to remain as the number one striker, while Torres will be provided an extra strength to the team when called upon from the bench.
“The club have grown and time has proved us right. I have also won trophies, but I want to win trophies here.I was missing something to motivate me, something I could only find here.Off the pitch I have been through many things. On a personal level I am more mature and very happy to be here.On the sporting level things have changed too. At 24 I realised something very hard, that I needed to leave so that the club and I could grow,” said the striker upon his return.
